Her days had been full of winter, though it was the middle of July. But not right now, not when she was with him. She sighed in pleasure as the grass beneath her body rustled with a soft breeze. Turning her head, she glanced at the boy next to her. Their fingers were intertwined, tight with the possibilities of summer love and unbroken promises. It was a pleasant change. They had met at a mutual friend's party, caught in a flurry of teasing glances, nervous small talk and exchanging of numbers. The first couple weeks had been exciting. Even after the initial chase and attain, even when they were together, it had been exciting. It seemed like they had done everything their small town had to offer them. But in the end, they found a nearby field the most pleasurable place to spend their dwindling time. Soaking in the sun, soaking in each other's company. Some days they talked for hours, but on days like this, they remained silent. They didn't mind. They only needed each other. And perhaps that was the problem, thought the girl. It was because they needed each other that she was worried. This teenage boy, this boy with a frail beating heart of his own, was taking care of hers. He had done a good job up until now, this was true, but what happened when it wasn't the middle of July anymore? When August set in, or October, or even worse, the winter months. Where would he be when the warm breezes and soft grass turned to sharp winds and barren land? Would he still be here? Would they still be in love? She didn't know. How could they know? And as she looked at this boy, who was soon to be a man, she felt a sad knowing wash through her body. She understood. She knew that nothing was forever, just as this summer would end. But in this moment, this boy who took away the winter, who warmed her tired bones, was truly all she needed. And the fact that he needed her back, was as good as a summer's day. --- Totally aware that this is cliche and silly but you know what. It is cold and wet and raining and snowing all at once outside and I just want some cute, fluffy, warm romance ok. DON'T JUDGE ME. |
